Hi guys, new to all of the wine making. Just wondering is there anyone on the forum from northern ireland ?

I must say reading the posts it's a great help. Is there a simple way of calculating the alcohol out come when reading the hydrometer and working out how much super to add. I like a sweetish wine but don't want it to taste like soda.

    Thanks.

A simple rule of thumb for strength is 20g of sugar per % alcohol per litre of finished dry wine. So 100g of sugar in 1l of finished dry 'wine' at 5%.

      Absolutely agree.

If you want to cheat, click on the brown button at the top of the screen called "calculations and conversions"

The third one down is "alcohol calculation chart" - it's a free to download table. print it, stick in your shed.
