Ha ha!, well done Karl. Credit where it's due matey.

But as for me ? Not all the time my ar5e points downwards.

The last time I did anything "in formal attire" would have been about 15 or 16 years ago, and I can honestly say that "no 1's" as a provost marshal, followed by that years "November ceremonies" was enough for me.

There's probably some video of the November ceremonies in an archive somewhere, there's definitely a pic of me as a provost marshal, the case was a full page in the News (Portsmouth) and I was in the 1/3 page photograph escorting the "prisoner" back to the gatehouse after sentencing (though it was probably more to do with me being by far the tallest person involved at 6'4"). I might see if I can find a copy one day and I might even post it

but no, definitely not anything so grand as the NGWBJ stuff.

    Anyway, well done again.

    regards

    JtFB

p.s. besides, why would I want to be a judge for something that I like doing, but happen to be cra9 at ? I wouldn't have the brass neck to judge someone elses efforts when I struggle to make a decent bottle myself

Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are sexy.

Just arrived back home (Dropped M off at Stanstead airport at 5.15am.....)

what a wonderful weekend, as Karl says .......huge congratulations to him too, although I got to do it in person...will post more pica later (need to sleep now)

            Favourite moments from the weekend?

well there are many, listed here in no particular order...

My first pupil making it through the exam ...I think I may just have been more nervous than he was, but we had prepared, and it all came together.

Receiving my certificate (I elected to wait till the judges conference as its more special to receive it there) a very proud moment for me indeed.

Making the toast to the guild, an honour and a privilege.

Was looking forward to it, but as I stood in front Of them, I suddenly realised I was addressing the great and the good of the wine judging world, and became a little nervous, however as I make my living speaking, the nerves soon subsided. I paid them the respect they deserved, told a couple of funnies to lighten the mood, and then tackled my main topic........

It had been suggested to me that the thing to talk about was how I became a judge, this seemed like a good idea, but upon reflection,. I imagine my journey there was similar to theirs, so I decided to tackle them all the idea (they all seem to have...circles federations and all engaged in the hobby) that the hobby is dead, I informed them that it wasn't dead, it was just different, that the future was different to the past, and that they needed to change in order to embrace it.....told them of wines at home, of Pontefract circles growing numbers of members, how we held a brand new show this year, and how we were changing the face of the wine circle and the wider area (after a long struggle I FINALLY got the Yorkshire federastion to accept minutes via email ) I spoke of the growing numbers of winemakers who were out there, but who just werent active in the circle scene.

I thought I may have gotten into trouble with the establishment for them being admonished slightly!!!

Nothing could be further from the truth...I was approached by many of the leading lights, in not only the guild but the executive of N.A.W.B. who were delighted that someone was shaking things up, and had the drive and enthusiasm they had put into it in the early days, and they thanked me and urged me to conitnue.....whoda thunk it?

At the AGM I was proposed as a new member of the executive committee (was asked beforehand....and accepted) and was voted in.

I cannot believe what a couple of years I have just had, have become very active in the hobby, have become vice chair of Ponte, Secretary of Yorkshire Federation, became a wine Judge, and now on the ruling body (phew)

As M says......I'm now part of "the establishment"

As ever ...a Joy to have her by my side

just wanted to share with you all
