Which also highlights the hazards.... we have to have netting over the rasps, 3kg of which are currently in the steam juicer (damn they smell good), but it also means that the birds can't get to the slugs/snails that also appreciate raspberry (not a big fan of chemicals, but will use them if need be).

I was looking for ways to acidify soil to help blueberries, used coffee grounds was one I found, the website I looked at said that used coffee grounds and orange peel can be a good deterrent to slugs and snails. I haven't tried it yet, I'll let you know though, my garden is overrun with the blighters

Looking like I may get a reasonable crop this year......

as long as the birds dont get them, but as they didn't get my redcurrants raspberries, blackcurrants and gooseberries (next doors 11 cats may be helping in this regard!) I just might have some grapes to harvest this year

They're looking pretty darn good. We had very good blackcurrant and raspberry harvests this year, and our first year of a decent gooseberry showing.

Also been meaning to ask you for ages now, whats the name of the plam tree that you have growing in your garden Bob? its the type that mainly grows in English gardens and just wondered if you had the name as I like to impress when I go to the Garden Centre

Do you net your vines, Bob? The birds around here (starlings, robins, crows) are thick as thieves. If I don't net them as soon as I see veraison, I might as well kiss them goodbye.

Well Bob, it does seem like the "berry crops" are reasonable. As for the 11 furry neighbours ? yes, I suspect that might be the case, as long as you don't mind the occasional "cat diamond" that needs, erm, relocating....
