  • Favourite White Wine Kit?

I'm going to be buying a couple more 1 gallon white wine kits soon and am looking for a recommendation. I normally only buy 1 gallon kits as I'm the only drinker in the house and I like a variety of wines in store.

I've worked my way through all of the Californian Connoisseur kits and have found the Chardonnay and the Pinot Grigio to be particularly good but I'm always up for something a bit different.

So what's your favourite white wine kit (if you absolutely had to choose!)?

WinExpert Limited Edition Pacific Quartet - not much use to you because they are not being made at the moment, but if you see one and it's in-date, I'd recommend it, despite the hefty price tag.

Had a quick Google and like you say they're not being made (or sold) anywhere that I can find.

If I see it I might pick it up, is (was) it available in a six bottle kit?

I agree with Pete, superb stuff but a ltd edition and 30 bottle only. I suggest working through the Beaverdale range.

Have a go at the beaverdale sauvignon blanc....

swap the yeast for a lalvin D47 or Gervin No5 and add just a touch of oak (5 grams for about 2 to 4 weeks) whilst ageing it.

          yum scrum.

I've just started my third kit of pacific quartet ( had it sitting about for 6 months)

I have made the kenridge selection chardonnay at least 4 times and everyone whos been offered it enjoyed it (most wouldn't believe it was a kit). Buttery smooth with a hint of oak. Beaverdale chardonnay is harsh (but still drinkable) by comparison.

It would probably age well but O always run out by 2-3 months post bottling.

                cheers

changing the yeast will eliminate most of that

Thanks Bob I shall give it a try. Would you recommend the same yeast choice that you mentioned above.

                    lalvin D47 or Gervin No5
and would you add more oak (I can't remember if it came with an oak sachet when I did it).

                    thanks

I would add just a hint more at ageing (but taste it first!)

I haven't made any kits in the last few years, but I did make a Winexpert LE Gewurztraminer in 2008 that quite impressive.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've bought the Beaverdale Sauvignon Blanc and some gervin 5 as per the recommendation.

I'll start working my way through the Beaverdale kits then onto the others mentioned.

                          Cheers

I bottled and had a glass of a 6 bottle Beaverdale Sav Blanc kit tonight that I started 5 months ago and it tasted fab, really impressed.
