  • Virtual Wine Circle - June 2010

To make it easier on (almost) all of us, we've decided to hold Virtual Wine Circle Meetings on the Third Thursday of every month at 7:30 "Londontime".

That means for the month of June, it shall be on June 17th.

The topics will surely include the Comp, but we're open to any suggestions. Anyone have a good wine suggestion?
We'll probably talk a bit about GrapeFest too.

    Get involved!

Couple of topics we had in mind - please add your thoughts/input/ideas!

      1. VWC Comp - what was good, what was bad
      2. VWC Meetings - how we should continue
      3. VWC Future Comps - how many, restrictions?
      4. VWC Volunteers! We need you!
      5. GrapeFest - When, where, why and how.
      6. VWC - yearly dues (which might include all shipping fees, entry fees, processing fees (which means paypal fees and packaging, fuel, and printing costs, just for the comps)....

We'd love your input and you comments to "What is GrapeFest for you"
      Also
We'd love your comments to "How was the VWC comp"

      Also

We need feedback on how to get homebrew shops involved in the VWC, and if you would be willing to step outside the shadows and get the "famous VWC bottles" to them... (as an example)....

Anything at all - both positive and negative (let's hope positive!!!) - is appreciated. We want and need the virtual wine circle to take off...

As all my Ops are over with and I feel 110% better and in the last few weeks I have just started Wine making again (after making none for about 6 months) and look forward to the VWC so count me in please.

As to no4 I would love to Volunteer but living so far from Bob how would this work?......again a good topic to discuss during the VWC meeting.

Unfortunately, since I work days and this would be 1:30 in the afternoon for me, I guess I'll be unable to attend any future meetings.

In fact, this time would appear to limit anyone from this side of the globe from participating.

          Why not weekends?

Ok, obviously I'm not real happy about the new day and time.

            How was this decided?

I had to go look, but we took a poll sometime back, and the majority agreed that Sunday was the favorable day for holding VWC.

            The results are here:

I enjoy participating in VWC and have tried to make it to most of the meetings (except for the last, which was on a Saturday), but Thursdays are absolutely out for me, I'm afraid.

I have to agree with Steve here. Thursday during my business hours are out of the question.

Nothing is cast in stone, but weekends are a bit of a problem as people dont show up. But you are right , weekday evenings prevent your side of the pond taking part.

                everyones thoughts please?

I think that, no matter which day you choose, someone won't be able to make it.

I do vaguely recall a poll, and in my opinion if Sunday was the day we voted for, we should go with it.

Personally I don't mind which night it is. My work varies week-on-week, so it'll be a matter of luck whether or not I am around.

the problem is, that some of the people who voted for sunday didnt then show up....

its a real difficulty, Martina and I thought that weekday would maybe be better because people weren't going to be taking spouses out etc, but then of course it takes out the other side of the pond, and we have regular contributors from there....

its a difficulty, and we need to decide on a time of the month and have it regularly at that time, whichever night that is, (ie third wednesday/saturday or whatever) but its important that it becomes a regular night, im not bothered about which night it is....

Alright, sorry! I forgot about the poll! Don't hang me quite yet....

After back and forth with Bob, we've decided to change the meeting to the third Sunday of every month, 7:30 UK time. Sorry for the difficulties. I honestly didn't remember the poll.

Well, now you will probably hang me... I just had a look at the calendar and the third Sunday in June is the 20th. I am leaving on a family trip to San Diego that morning.

                            Arghh...

But I could make just about any other Sunday.

Honestly, I do appreciate the difficulty of trying to organize a group of people in different time zones for regular meetings. In my work I've had to do that sort of thing myself (a company I used to work for had satellite offices in London and Kyoto - trying to organize those meetings so everyone could attend was a laugh and a half). But I truly believe that weekends have to be much better than weekdays, especially if you're talking about getting together on a global scale.

We agree with you whole-heartedly. We changed it because you and rjb222 are such loyal and wonderful participants, and we wouldn't want to lose either of you due to something simple like a night. Funny thing was, was I wasn't going to be able to make it because I have asked for Monday and Thursday night calls, but now this works out well for me too.

What we simply wanted to do is pick a day and stay with it, so that it gets into everyone's minds when it is. No picking dates, it'll just be set. We could, however, have an informal and impromtu meeting this sunday to discuss it and other things regarding wine circle. No videos or wine tasting, but just some discussion on how we should continue doing this.

We're new to this too ! So, we'd really like some input from everyone - if it's just an informal get together, it would be great too.

And don't worry, I'll not hang you. I'd love to be going on a family trip to San Diego!!! If you'd rather, we could change places??!!??
