The white coloured one is the pear i used a straining bag and all of the pulp eventually escaped ,but it does smell very nice atm.Not sure if it will eventually clear as its very opaque at the moment.

ps ive just racked off the 4 gallon got a good fairly clear 3 gallon and left the other one to settle see if i can get maybe another half gallon out of that.I checked the sg as well , initially it was 1.10 and now its .990 now according to my table that makes it 16.2% thats not bad after just 8 days its still fermenting very very slowly now so i guess its got a bit to go yet ,so that may end up a bit pokey eh,haha .

I would say it is finished at SG .990. Probably just releasing some gas. (and I know about gas tonight) Sorry. BTW, SG figures are always expressed to the thousandth, 3 digits to the right of the decimal. Did it start out as SG 1.100? If so, that should be less than 16% abv.

I wonder if that table is for alcohol by weight.

A starting SG of 1.100 at 60*F should net 13% alcohol by volume at dryness measured at the same 60*F.

OK, now I disagree with myself even.

              abv%=((original gravity-final gravity)X1000)X.129

              abw%=((original gravity-final gravity)X1000)X.102

In your case, abv would equal 14.19% and abw would equal 11.22%.

The original and final gravities must be taken at the same temp or adjusted to the same temp.

LMAO! It is hilarious that everyone comes up with a different number. One might expect such things to be standardized! NOT!!!

                    Please see here

You had a drop of 110 s.g. that makes alcohol level of 14.945% ABV.....I reckon

I agree that it's finished and just releasing gas if it's at .990 then its totally dry.

                    cheers

Precision is the degree of accuracy.
