    the vacuvin I hink is about £7
    and the orange caps for carbuoys/demijohns is about £3

      Bob,

      I was led to belive that the wine would degass by itself, as i intend to mature the wines for a very long time, 3, 1 gallon DJ's maturing now for 3 months, i hope to leave them for over a year or more. Should i start to think about doing as you have posted in this thread? or is it ok to leave them?

          Yes you are quite right if you leave them a year they will degass themselves

            however you can rig up a degassing top for 1 gallon demijohns

            i will go rig one up and take a photo of it now

                    Press reasonable firmly...firm enough to make a seal and suck a few times on the vacuvin......

                        A bung fitted with a one way valve

                        so gasses can escape but air cant get in.
