• Peapod Wine

I used the following recipe (C.J. Berry)

5lb peapods
3lb sugar
1tbs citric acid
1/2tsp grape tannin
1 gal water
yeast and nutrients.

I left it to age in the DJ for a year(ish) and bottled it yesterday. Cook's perks tell me that it is surprisingly good stuff, especially when you think that the main ingredient would normally find it's way onto the compost heap! As I'm about to harvest this year's peas I'm certainly going to make another batch of this.

PS forgot to mention pectolase - it's not in the original recipe but I always add it just in case.

Yes, boil and squeeze. I've got 2 gallons on the go again and if it's anything like last year's I can't wait.

boil and squeeze.I hope I never write that juxtaposition of words again

Just noticed Mamgi the one tbs citric acid, is that right or a typo should it be tsp, just thought I'd check before adding

No, it wasn't a typo. Seems rather excessive I know, but honestly it tastes lovely. It might be due to peapods being rather bland, I dunno, but it works.

With this new batch however, I used acid blend just to see if there was a difference.

I know, I know - if it ain't broke don't mend it, but no harm in experimenting, is there?

I hope.

Cheers Mamgi, I agree without experiment we'd never know what the next batch could be like.
