        A couple of new labels

Just playing around with a couple of new labels today and thought I would post them for comments. I haven't actually started the Pinot yet, but hope it will be here by next weekend.

Why the goats? I just thought they were neat images... and I'm a Capricorn, which is a goat.

        What do you think?

Both labels are fab, I really like the Orange Muscat label (not just because it says 16% ABV). I am going to have to spend a little time learning how to do this. What software did you use?

For the artwork I use a prog called Paint Shop Pro. I have an older version made by Jasc, but I think Corel recently bought out the company. Nice software and easy to use for artistically challenged dummies like me.

Microsoft Word. I have a template I use for all my labels so they come out the same size. Just cut and paste the images into the table cells and hit print.

                The template looks like this:

Actually, I meant with what kind of printer? Laser?

I have noticed that the colors are never as bright as I want them to be for my labels. And the crispness isn't as nice either. It might be the cheap paper I'm using...

I really love the labels. I'm not that artistic.

Dani, thanks. Most times I just use a color inkjet, but there have been a few that I wanted to look a little nicer. For those I put the files on a flash drive, take them to a Fedex Kinkos store (don't know if you have those), and have them printed using a color laser.

I had a really hard time finding paper I liked. I tried cheap and expensive paper but it didn't seem to matter. I finally stumbled across some glossy full-sheet labels at an office supply store. The colors come out bright on those. I went back and bought 6 packs of them, even though they were kind of expensive, because I didn't want to run out for awhile.

What's nice about the full-sheet labels is you can set them up any size you want and cut them with a paper cutter.

I only put nice labels on about half the bottles in a given batch. Those I bring out for company or give as gifts. The rest get nothing more than a peel & stick with the name of the wine on it. The missus and I don't spend as much time admiring the labels as we do enjoying the contents.
