    Ok - advice taken on board - thanks indeed - am going to scour the car boot sales first, see if I can get one at bargain price (thats if the weather warms up enough to have a car boot sale!)

      Can you wash them, by running fresh water through them backwards?

        Are you sure you're not a Yorkshire man Brian?

        i wouldn't advise it because the fibres of the filter become unstable when wet and you are likely to get small particles and a filter taste in your wine.
