Blueberry melomel

  • Blueberry melomel

    (bought the ingredients while wandering the streets of Lubeck while M at work)

    3 x 500g jars of acacia honey (3.3lbs)
    125g tub of blueberries (bilberries will do...they are high bush blueberries)
    1tsp pectolase
    1 tsp yeast nutrient (qwill add more later)
    1/2 tsp yeast energiser (or vit B1 tablet)
    3tsp tartaric acid
    water to 1 gallon
    Lalvin D47 yeast

    start SG 1.090
    blueberries added whole....just to see what happens

            How did this turn out then ? I started one last week with a similar recipe, but added 2 litres of grape juice and fermented down to 1.010 before adding blueberry juice, which was 2 125g tubs pressed for juice only.
            SG was high at just over 1.100 plus the blueberry juice, so hoping this will stop at around 1.020 (D47 14% alc limit).

              I've just started a bob recipe for this today, I've added pectolase and will leave overnight before adding the yeast/nutrient/energiser.

              I'll let you know how its tastes.

                Here's the melomel 24 hrs (ish) after adding the pectolase
                Its smells very very nice, looking forward to the final product



                And here it is after adding yeast energiser & nutrient and obviously the yeast
