Hello,
Welcome aboard, if this is all brand new to you, give yourself a leg up by reading the new winemaker series in this section of the forum,
http://www.winesathome.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=62
This is a series of wines to make to build up your Winemaking skills, you will develop new techniques as you progress, and it will give you wine that is drinkable early (reward)
then have a look in the downloads bit, there are some easy guides in there that will help you along the way,
http://www.winesathome.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=1990
the tutorial section "should" have the answer to most questions,
http://www.winesathome.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=83
or the FAQ section,
http://www.winesathome.co.uk/forum/faq.php
Please try to search for the information too, but if you cant find the answer then there is always the tried and trusted....post a message asking....how does this work? we will try to answer you quickly.
We have tried to build a resource that is helpful to the new winemaker and is a friendly place. A place where you can improve your Winemaking and make new friends. You will be surprised at how quickly you become proficient and will be offering advice to newbies in no time at all.
THINGS TO DO
We have started a virtual wine circle, for those of you who cannot attend a "real" wine circle, this circle meets once a month in the forums chat room
watch the forums calendar or look for announcements to tell you when and where, we have video tutorials end such, and each month a wine tasting to help us all have better palates, we use a cheap store bought wine and compare notes, its great fun.
we run a Grapefest each year where we get our hands on imported Winemaking grapes from Italy Spain and maybe in future years Germany Portugal and France..
You are all welcome to attend, even if you dont buy any grapes. There is floor space at my house, land to the rear for camping, or local B&B places
see here for details
see here for Pete's (Goldseal) virgins guide to grapefest.
RULES
We do have "some" rules, but we try to keep these to a minimum.
There is a swear filter in place that will not allow you to type naughty words so please dont try to circumvent it by the use of asterisk or such, if you have to disguise the word this way, you shouldn't be using it
Remember you are being displayed in someone Else's living room, so please act accordingly.
No Discussion of politics or religion (in any form) we are a wine forum, and discussions on these topics always gets out of hand.
Please try to remember that the typed word has no inflection and therefore is easy to misread, if you are joking use a smile might seem silly, but it can save hurt feelings.
Always re-read what you are about to post if it is late at night and you have been sampling.
There is a system of infractions (warnings) thankfully they aren't needed often, but if you receive too many then your membership is suspended for a while.
The moderators run the forum with me, and anyone on the mod team can issue infractions, and I trust them implicitly, they know my thoughts on just about everything.
Other than that its pretty relaxed......pull up a chair.
If you have any thoughts or ideas that could improve the forum then please let me know, I am always looking to improve things.
I hope you have fun and contribute
Best regards
Bob
