  • What's going on in your winery today..

    Today/tonight whenever...

I've just put on a black cherry port style wine using a Youngs kit and some left over merlot juice and skins. Checked over my grapefest 09 fermentations and turned out the lights!!

    Ooh, excellent idea Rich

    Today I are been mostly:

Bottling Mrs.G's California Connoisseur (sp) Zinfandel Blush - the leftovers tasted pretty promising.

Removing the bag of Merlot skins from my 3 gals of Wine No.1, and marvelling as it continued fermenting on the leftover yeast from the skins.

Feeling relieved that the Carboy of ciliegiolo (racked 2 days ago) started up again

    That's it!

      Today...

I bottled 2 gallons of the faux chateauneuf du pape

I bottled 3 gallons of a classic wine number one.

I started off a Raspberry and Rhubarb

I somehow managed to cut my siphoning tube in half
So now I HAVE to go to the HBS tomorrow for another one

              Hmmmmm.... Yeah.

It was definately a blonde moment, to be honest.
I cut the siphoning tube in half myself... as I thought each half would be long enough independantly....
I wanted to filter one wine, whilst I bottled the other... a cheeky little but of multitasking

But it was not to be... as each half is not quite long enough to be left on its on

Wilkinsons sell siphoning tubes at competitive prices, they're not made of steel though

Racked a Wine #1 Cranberry, got a new box to stand my demijohns in, ordered a Young's Elderberry and Riesling... pretty boring.

Oh and I nearly had a heart attack when I wasn't paying attention and dinged a demijohn into another demijohn, I'm so paranoid after the breakage I had. Bob have you had any breakages??? I was curious

                      Lots of stuff yesterday:
                      • Checked TA of Marquette wine, adjusted, and inoculated with ML culture
                      • Removed 50 L of last year's Cabernet from barrel and replaced it with this year's Pinot Noir
                      • Inoculated Pinot with ML culture
                      • Hydrated 50 L barrel that's been stored for the last month and filled it with this year's Cabernet
                      • Started a batch of rosé with saignée juice blend
                      • Added oak spirals to a carboy of 2nd run Shiraz
                      • Cleaned many, many carboys from above activities
                      • Cleaned up work area so I could see the bench top again.
                      • Canceled Petite Verdot order for Friday, and replaced it with Petite Sirah.
                      • Had tea.*

                      Today:
                      • Nothing.

                      * No, not really. I just threw that in there for Pete.

A few SG checks on non-grapefest concoctions.

Checked SGs on Grapefest 2nd runs. The Black Cherry and Montepulciano kits are ready to rack already. I'm away this evening and tomorrow and I have lots of work to do today, so I'd better get cracking

                          But first ......

Merlot rose racked, disposed of 25 litres of aweful Grenache from last year, sulphited a couple of kits that I might bottle soon, prepped some carboys and had a tidy up.

                              Racked Ciliegiolo 2nd runs:

Black Cherry - 5 litres. Need to sugar-feed it soon.

Cantina Monte kit - 23 litres (water cooler bottle + DJ)

My back garden is currently covered in fermenters in various stages of cleaning.
