  • Old Peculiar Styled

Being a bit of a fan of Theakstons Old Peculiar I thought I'd brew a batch.

    23 litres.

    5000g Pale Malt (6EBC)
    500g Crystal Malt (300EBC)
    300g Chocolate Malt (1000EBC)
    250g Carafa III (1400EBC)
    20g Fuggles (4.3%) 60 mins
    30g Challenger (7.6%) 60mins
    20g East Kent Goldings (5.2%) 15mins
300g Brown Sugar in the boil
    WLP005 yeast

Mashed at 66.5c for 60mins, Batch sparged, boiled for 60 mins

    Start 1.062, finish 1.015

Primed and bottled with 70g ish of black treacle.

Brewed 30/10/10, It's now bottled and ageing nicely.

It pours well, with a nice light brown head that doesn't last long. Not sure quite how close to OP it is but it tastes good, and it's very dark!

Koomber has suggested an 'old peculiar' competition at GF2011, If we make it an open recipe comp but post your recipe and tasting notes in here if you'd like to take part.
