I'm just getting ready to make my first batch of Cascade summer ale.
The WAH recipe is simplicity itself, but I did notice that although there are few ingredients, it does use quite a lot of them. Hops in particular.
Which got me into pricing it up per bottle as compared to my norm - Old Speckled Cock (mine often has a bit more fight in it ).
My suspicions have been proved correct, old speckled comes in at £.25 per bottle whereas cascade comes in at a whopping £.36 per bottle.
Good value - yes, a bit nerdy - yes. So what's the point I am making.
Two reasons really..
1. Although we are buying small retail packs of grain, it is still massively cheaper than buying a bottle of beer in the supermarket.
2. All recipes are not equal and I think the hop loading is probably key to the cost of the brew.
3. Wherry is roughly 45p per bottle and although quite nice, not a patch on an all grain brew.
Happy days
