  • Grapefest talks

ok boys and girls, time to organise the talks (likely three of them)

What would you like to see?

Pete can do one on degassing if you would like?

but what else? beer making? acidity testing?

you tell me and i will see if i can organise it.

Last year the talsk were around an hour each, does that seem about right?

    always looking for new ideas.

If there's enough interest for a beer making one Bob, i'd be more than happy to contribute to or do the talk!!

Acidity testing would be good - just to anchor the stuff from Koomber's excellent talk last year!

Also, what about blending? Rob and i have mentioned this in another thread....... Richard S to do, if he's willing (maybe expand on his forum thread)????

Happy to do degassing Bob - will probably need to rehearse a bit the day before (and BEFORE the curry to avoid expensive incidents, possibly requiring hospitalisation).

I'm quite keen to do one on techniques for making port-type wines, if anyone is interested.

        That I'd be interested in.

Have you developed a better method then since the mango surprise?

Just for the record, this was a joint effort with Rich (and a jolly nice one too)

Insecure people try to make you feel smaller.

Confident people love to see you walk taller

Blending tips and techniques would be one I would like to see.

Also testing and adjusting Ph, acid and sugar pre ferment and possible explanations as to why there were such variations in last years grapes. I've just started to learn about the relationship between PH and SO2 for the safe ageing of wine and want to learn more.

I would also be interested in a port making talk.

Copied from previous post in Grapefest - Whos coming..

"As for talks - what about something like correcting your must to achieve balance between alcohol, fruit weight and acid. Adjuncts (e.g, oak) and sugar feeding. Also wine faults and corrections is a good one, depending on who is there."

I like the Port idea too and Dave's beer making 101. Not tried brewing yet but have felt like dabbling for a while. Would it be sacriligeous to do that at Grapefest? If so then maybe we can discuss it in the margins. But if there is a chance to learn from the QUACK!QUACK!QUACK!QUACK!ing master then I am most certainly in.
