  • 2014 harvest - any reports from Italy?

Has anyone heard any news of how this year's season is shaping up for montepulciano? Is Italy early like us or have they had flood problems?

found this: Italy's grape harvest begins on Monday
(AGI) Rome, Aug 10 - Grape harvesting begins on Monday, 10 days earlier than last year, according to farmers' association Coldiretti. It will kick off with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for sparkling wine, at 8 a.m. local time at the Faccoli farm, Via Cava a Coccaglio, Brescia. . .

After a climatically irregular season, with July recording 74 percent more rainfall and half a degree Celsius below average, the arrival of normal summer weather fuels hopes for the harvest

        Found this: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...a-century.html

But within the article: "Some regions in central Italy will see a modest increase in the quantity of grapes harvested, while across the north of the country production will be down on last year." Montepulicano is in central Italy so there is some hope.

OK, started this year's vintage. All the reports of a weak Italian vintage worried me, but the merlot I have just processed were well ripe at 1.085. 13 boxes of a 'nominal' 10kg = 130kg = 83L must after destalking and chucking less than 5% furry stuff.
