no they are different things altogether, its the sol vino type (just dont buy lots of little tins to make up to a pint) and it it white grape concentrate that is required not red.......

the source this time is "must" by Professor Gerry Fowles, (still in print and only £3.95....heavy reading though, unless you are a geek) and I also picked it up from other materials I studied whilst preparing for my Judges exam (but mostly because I'm a Geek)

Ok... I think I am having a blonder than normal day
But if you dont buy enough tins to make up a pint, what do you do ?? Do they sell it in bigger tins ??

I had a look a Karl's recipe... and that does look good, but I only have one, one pound xmas pudding.. so that will have to wait till they are more readily available...

Yes they do, you would buy a 1kg tin (approx £6) something like a 1 gallon dry white wine kit that HBS sell will fit the bill (check the label for contents, some of them ARENT grape juice)

More advice required ladies and gents.

Mine fermented down to 0.989 and is sitting there, sulphited, sorbated and degassed (mostly), waiting for me to do something with it.

The problem is, I know little about this style of wine, other than it needs sweetening. Any advice on an SG range for the finished product? I probably have about 8 bottles - worth, so is it worth trying a couple of different levels of sweetness?

                      That's great, thanks Duff.

I sometimes find that something that tastes OK in little-sample quantities tastes entirely different when you've had a couple of glasses, so it's nice to at least have a starting point.

Settled for something in the range 1.018 - 1.022. I'll let Mrs. Goldseal decide. It's amazing how that bit of sugar transforms it into a really smooth drink, isn't it?

Karl, if you don't mind I'll bring some to Grapefest for you to give me your (professional) opinion

Yes it is, this wine is built for the sweetness, without it, I would imagine a weak whisky style flavour.
Sure thing fetch some to grapefest, that will be the fun part swapping and tasting each others wines, I'm personally hoping an odd parsnip wine will turn up.

I didn't think of Whisky, but now you come to mention it, you're not far off. I'd have said weak Brandy.

I was under the impression that ALL parsnip wines were odd. That's what I've been told anyway

I thought people weren't allowed in unless they had a bottle of parsnip wine?
