A word of caution when buying bulk malted grain will last for years as long as a couple of conditions are met. Air circulation is one and moisture control and bug containment are the others the only way to get good air circulation is in a silo so moisture and bug control are the ones to address keep it in the sack until use and dry the use a large plastic trash bin to store the rest unless you own a vacuum packer.A vacuum packer is ideal for storage if using one I would sack 2 kg to a sack then you just need to count out the right number for the recipe and the one that is used part of can be resealed. Adjunct grains will only comprise about 6% of any recipe so get more base grain two row or six row than crystals or carapils. As far as carapils goes I would get some maltodextrin and use that instead as carapils is a very small amount in any recipe and you will more than likely wind up throwing a lot away when it expires.Using too much of carapils will leave you with a gummy effect.Carapils is already converted base sugars that are basically unfermentable and used for mouth feel they leave a slight after sweet to your brew.

Seems as good as anywhere for a first post.I used to get my malts from here http://www.fawcett-maltsters.co.uk/welcom.htm it was a minimum order of £50 in 2001 for which i used to get 4 25kg sacks of Maris otter and 1 sack of crystal or chocolate depending on needs.A cracking idea about chipping together Bob,i'd be up for it for one.
