  • Beer not getting to specific gravity

I have an Almondbury Old beer kit from brupaks on. First few days fizzed up and got really frothy. after that its stuck at around 1.020. but the kit says you need to get it to below 1.010. I am new to beer making, is it a stuck ferment? if so what do I do next?

I have had a taste and its wonderful

Add some yeast nutrient and give it a stir to add some oxigen, this is not unusual for no sugar kits, they are nutrient unbalanced.

I would also add a bit of yeast energizer if you can get it. Yeast nutrient is the food and yeast energizer is the minerals and vitamins for the yeast.Careful on how much you add if the energizer and nutrient are not all used by the yeast you can wind up with a salty taste to your brew.

Over the pond I am not sure of the availability nor the names of the chemicals. Maybe Bob could give us a word here. I purchase yeast energizer and yeast nutrient for my brewers. I have had a slow ferment myself just recently. (Old Kit) I decided to ferment and I used them both chirping away quite happily now. Tried the nutrient first it helped a bit but added the energizer next day and away it went.

            Hi All,
Thanks for the help, but had no luck and bottled anyway, tastes very nice but probably not very strong.
Had another go with woodfordes admiral reserve,
            Guess what exactly the same!
Me thinks it has got to be the bottled water from the supermarket.
I don't want to be put off so will try another kit and but use tap water (or VOLVIC).
sorry for the delay in replying been a bit of it.

            cheers

The water that comes from your tap in Leeds is fine quality........

you dont need to use bottled water

I think this looks more like the paper in the hydrometer has shifted. The problem seems too consistent with the same number of points.
