  • Topping up grain brews

I always end up topping up the fermenter to the final volume. Is this normal? Its not a problem, as the process washes out the chiller at the same time, but does it make any difference?

PS Made Old Speckled Hen again as this brew is very much to my taste - can anyone recommend something else?

I top up if I'm short on wort, and the sg is high. I tend to go by the gravity rather than volume.

+1 for this approach. Always use boiled & cooled water to top up too...not to mention treated (1/2 Campden Tab per 23L of water).....just in case of any TCP issues.

      *Edit - Assuming Post-boil situation*
