Does CO2 used to "charge" a barrel or keg have to be "food grade"?

I have noticed a few adverts have specifically stated "food Grade" CO2 ??

I'd imagine CO2 is food grade anyway. It is just Carbon and two oxygens bonded together in gaseous form.

Unless the CO2 cannister has other chemicals/ potential contaminents but I'm not sure they would...? Maybe someone round here knows...

Pub gas suppliers are the cheapest and quite frankly price is king IMO. I doubt there is much difference It will be handling as opposed to substance.

Thought there would be no difference. as long as everything is clean and sanitised it should be fine for consumption.

Gonna get my tank (freebie handed in at work) filled at a local Fire extinguisher service place - then invest in a few cornies (hides screen from good lady).

God this brewing thing is getting really addictive.......
