  • Cider Kit Advice

    Hi all,

I've picked up a 5 gallon cider kit and have a quick question. Is there any advantage in me substituting some of the water with plain apple juice (from concentrate, no additives) instead of plain white sugar/water?

Assuming the acidity isn't overly affected by the apple juice (I can test) and I don't overdo the starting SG (to over balance it with too high an ABV) I'm thinking about taste/body in a similar way beer kits are improved by using DME/LME instead of plain white sugar.

Apologies in advance if this has already been asked/answered elsewhere!

Well, if you think about it, you've ID'd the two possible effects. Though I'd have thought the cons are out weighed by the pro's.

Last time I meddled with a cider kit, it was just to add sugar to increase the ABV of the end product. Of course it will affect flavour if you did this anywary, so you might have to age it a bit longer......

    regards
