  • Rondo Grapes

    Well

Harvested the Rondo grapes from outside today, (the ones the birds got) made me realise just how much crop the birds took, I think I was left wth 1% at best, however I got enough to make about 1/2 gallon of wine.

Brix at 24 (whoo hoo) and seeds brown, so nice and ripe.

    Wonderful colour...see pic

You said Rondo is Pinot clone, correct? I've never had a commercial Rondo. Will the finished wine be light in colour like Pinot Noir?

Well, it sounds like you will get 2-3 bottles from the batch to try. I just did a little quick reading and everything seems to indicate Rondo makes a pleasant full-bodied wine.

If it makes you feel any better, I planted a new hybrid grape this year called Marquette that I've only tasted once. It's cold-hardy and billed as the genetic grandson of pinot noir. I may try for a small crop next year just to sample it. But I hope it lives up to its billing because it's occupying a sizable piece of the garden.

a taste indicates, quite full bodied, and really quite fruity, even this young it seems quite mellow....roll on 2008

here it is stood in front of the WE chocolate orange port on the left and 22 litres Czech Pilsner
