  • mosel hertz problem

I've been palnning to train my vines using the mosel hertz system. My vines are about to start their third year so this is the first time i've tried bending them round.

There are 18 of them. a good half inch thick at 7ft.

their leg is 4 buds high - about 15" and the rest is last years cane. if i try the deep bending that Alan Rowe advocates in his book the vines feel/sound as if they might snap.

14 of them are regent and 4 are phoenix. they are on S04 rootstocks.

    help please!

the vines will bend a great deal but you need to perform the bend over more than one node, there is a great deal of info here

But I'm not sure that regent will do well on that system in the UK......I'm not familiar with that training system

the double guyot system will likely suit those vines on SO4 better......(source Nick Poulter....growing vines to make wine) and most UK vineyards use the double guyot system
