Only 16 days to go
If I needed to transport home, say, a 5 gallon batch of juice, will I need a container with headspace (e.g. a 33l fermenting bucket) or not (e.g. a 22.5l Better Bottle)?
Can anyone see any problems with the containers sitting in a car for the 3 hour journey home (plus a few hours sitting at home before anything gets done with them)?Pete the Instructor

Both containers will work fine provided well sealed, I use the fermenting buckets with snap on lids.
As for the journey, it'l be fine, it might be best if you sulphite the must to save the wild yeasts from kicking in whilst traveling then pitch your yeast starter the next day.Discount Home Brew Supplies

D'oh!
Obvious really! Thanks.
I only have one bucket with a snap-on lid. The other container was going to be a Youngs fermenter - says 5.5 gallons on the side, but I reckon it'll take 6 if absolutely full. It has an approx. 2 inch aperture. Adequate?
The biggest by local (15 miles away) HBS does is a 27 litre (6 gal) bucket - better?Pete the Instructor

Good thinking regarding the skins guy's, the one with the 2" opening will be ok for whites but not reds, you need to get your hands in to punch the cap down, the bucket here is what we use for about 4 gallon, the cap formed can take up 6" or more of headspace.Discount Home Brew Supplies

The whites will be in a 6 gallon bucket then racked into carboys.
