  • Next tip, wear clothes that you don't mind getting covered in red grape juice/muck etc and leave the expensive watches at home.

    • ... and another fermenter arrives at the Goldseal household

      Right, a bit of admin.

Mrs. Goldseal and I are driving up Saturday morning. What time do you want us there? Please don't say 'any time'!

Do you want us (well, Mrs.G) to bring some food for the evening? I'd suggest some particularly nice parmesan & garlic chicken. Loads of garlic, but very nice.

      • Not sure on kickoff time, would have thought earlyish to get the crushing sorted so we can chill and have a drink / bbq.
Mrs Duffbeer is fetching some sandwiches and snacks for the daytime and a pan of curry with some pitta/naan bread for the evening. So yes we could use stuff to put on the bbq.

        • I wont get home till around 3AM (M flying in to Stanstead at 23.20) so I'd rather not have too early a start

I'm picking the grapes up at around 6pm Fri evening and will get them from the fridge, so they should be nicely at the right temperature for the morning....

          So....how does this look?

          11 to 11.30am crush/de-stem/stomp/press whites

number testing/tasting as crushing proceeds, discussion about potential adjustments to the must, and what sort of effect you can achieve.
sulphite must and allow to settle.

          12.30 (ish) Crush de-stem reds,
number testing/tasting and again decisions regarding wine style and must adjustments, various possibilities available, and outcomes on the finished wine.

should lunch go between the two or afterwards?(I'm thinking afterwards, as some alcohol "may" be consumed at that point.)

Dont forget your swim suits as the hot tub will be fired up.

But I'm hoping for a fun day, like last year, and hopefully good weather

          • Hoping also to have a webcam running, but am having real difficulty with camstream.com so I may attempt to set one up through yahoo messenger and have it open to anyone to view....

will attempt to set that up in the next couple of days to test it....

if you havent got a yahoo messenger account, then now would be a good time to register (its free)

                    • What wines are you taking to Grapefest? I will be taking a bottle of Montepulciano from last years event, a couple of bottles of Rioja and a bottle of Luna Rossa (if I get off my lazy a*** and bottle some). Hmmmm, the Pinot Grigio (enhanced) has almost finished fermenting............

Very little - I don't have much which is fit for consumption at the moment

                        Probably:

                        A bog-standard Wine No.1
A Beaverdale Barolo (only been in the bottle 3 weeks)
                        A Christmas Pudding and Strawberry

I'll also bring a bottle of the 'smelly white' for Bob to do his diagnosis on

                        • I will be bringing some 2007 Montepulciano, I remember we were going to see who's was best from last year and see what the differences could be with different techniques and environments.
Other than that not sure at the moment, maybe some of what I'm entering at Lincoln.
