  • Hmmm. I think I'll get hold of a couple of Magnum kits - gott think about budget

Freezing skins? Post-fermentation? More info please!

My office is now just a bit more cramped. Mrs.Goldseal is making the cilieguilio (1 box), and that is going nicely in the office. The big buckets were downstairs (cooler) and are sluggish, so I've moved them upstairs, hoping the warmth will get them going. A few tsp of Tronozymol has gone in too.

I can still JUST get to the keyboard

After pressing put them in a freezer bag and freeze them, use them to enhance a kit or fruit wine at a later date.

Got a number of RC212 and D47 starters going yesterday.

After about an hour, all were audibly fizzing, and they continued to do so for a couple more hours.

This morning that activity has died down. I now have a definite layer of lees in the bottom of each bottle - a few bubbles on top, but no activity as such.

I tried adding a little sugar to one bottle to see if that made a difference, but nothing.

                  Is this normal?

                  Well done, some "proper" pictures.

Oh, and while I think about it, I seem to recall reading recently, that the use of the "P" word is considered abusive and borderline rascist (don't recall whether it was a finding at "tribunal" or whether it was in the Grauniad or similar).

Don't care myself, it's less offensive than most of my regular language - but we do have a few members with officially recognised reputations to consider and it might be better to think on that.

Apart from that, it seems that it was a complete blast of a day (weekend in some cases).

Hopefully I'll be able to come and annoy the hell out of you all next year

                  regards

Are you refering to the pikey wine judge?

A pc JtFB? It's like ketchup on your Sunday dinner or making wine using mushrooms and onions, it's just not right somehow.

                    • I'm not following the abusive and racist part. Where I live, a "piker" is a slacker of sorts. What's it mean over yon?

                      • Steve:

At these quirky events on Monkey Island, you learn much more than winemaking.

Pikey refers to gypsies, as I've been told.

C*nt is something I'd prefer not to comment about.

Parsnip is something that I've tasted in some wines this weekend, and it's not as bad as Bob claims it to be.

Sniffing means the same in American.

Your "piker" is similar, pikey is another name for a Gypsy. A couple of definitions can be found here.

irish gypsies who will steal anything and are mostly violent

I prefer the Urban dictionary version.
