Your "piker" is similar, pikey is another name for a Gypsy. A couple of definitions can be found here.

pikey: pikey is an impolite and possibly [racially offensive] term for a member of the irish travelling community. the term originated in west london around...

I prefer the Urban dictionary version.

    Steve:

At these quirky events on Monkey Island, you learn much more than winemaking.

Pikey refers to gypsies, as I've been told.

C*nt is something I'd prefer not to comment about.

Parsnip is something that I've tasted in some wines this weekend, and it's not as bad as Bob claims it to be.

Sniffing means the same in American.

Are you refering to the pikey wine judge?

A pc JtFB? It's like ketchup on your Sunday dinner or making wine using mushrooms and onions, it's just not right somehow.

Got a number of RC212 and D47 starters going yesterday.

After about an hour, all were audibly fizzing, and they continued to do so for a couple more hours.

This morning that activity has died down. I now have a definite layer of lees in the bottom of each bottle - a few bubbles on top, but no activity as such.

I tried adding a little sugar to one bottle to see if that made a difference, but nothing.

    Is this normal?
You can get "Go-Ferm" from "Nashwood Winery" on e-bay.....

Anyway, talkin of pics, some of these were taken after the watershed (late on).

    1. Mark in pain (bad back)

    2. Martina getting broody

    3. Wet patch competition (Karl won)

    4 & 5. Rub a dub dub, three pikey's in a tub.
    Well done, some "proper" pictures.

Oh, and while I think about it, I seem to recall reading recently, that the use of the "P" word is considered abusive and borderline rascist (don't recall whether it was a finding at "tribunal" or whether it was in the Grauniad or similar).

Don't care myself, it's less offensive than most of my regular language - but we do have a few members with officially recognised reputations to consider and it might be better to think on that.

Apart from that, it seems that it was a complete blast of a day (weekend in some cases).

Hopefully I'll be able to come and annoy the hell out of you all next year

    regards

    JtFB

Ideal for anyone with little kiddies...
Just put one above the mantlepiece and it will keep them away from the fire.

After pressing put them in a freezer bag and freeze them, use them to enhance a kit or fruit wine at a later date.

Hmmm. I think I'll get hold of a couple of Magnum kits - gott think about budget

Freezing skins? Post-fermentation? More info please!

My office is now just a bit more cramped. Mrs.Goldseal is making the cilieguilio (1 box), and that is going nicely in the office. The big buckets were downstairs (cooler) and are sluggish, so I've moved them upstairs, hoping the warmth will get them going. A few tsp of Tronozymol has gone in too.

I can still JUST get to the keyboard

I used the magnum kits with the cilieguilio last year, the results are promising, but I think stepping up to the magnum ultimate kits this year, will be the preferred option or maybe even heron bay or beaverdale. (on a side note, Winexpert now own Heron Bay by the way)

I also intend freezing some of the skins as fruit wine additions

I have frozen 21 litres o f the trebbiano juice also, to use as per Steves Icewine tutorial. (excited about that)

    regards
    Bob

I used a carafe 21 kit last year, and wasn't too pleased with the results. So, don't go too cheap on the kit.

This year I've got a BIG tub of white concentrate to make a Rosé with one lot, and a cheap chardonnay kit to make an interesting Rosé with the other.
