Following discussions last night with Goldseal and Duffbeer, we have decided that in order for more people to have access to it, the educational stuff would run on the Saturday (10th September) alongside the grape processing.
We will meet up for a curry the evening before (Fri 9th September) for those arriving early.
The educational stuff would be something along the lines of:
Methods and benefits of degassing followed by Q&A session
Making Wines from Grapes, do's dont's and maybe's followed by Q&A session
SO2 testing, MLF testing, acidity testing followed by Q&A session
Filtering methods Enolmatic/minijet/harris followed by Q&A session
Fruit wine must preparation and use of steam juicer followed by Q&A session
Evaluating wine and identifying wine faults and fault correction followed by Q&A session
Round table evaluation session, bring along your wine, and have it analysed, get useful feedback as to how to improve it.
Please let us have your feedback as to what you would like to learn more about, and we can see if we can fit it in.
So grape processing to start at around 10.30 am hopefully
Educational stuff to start at around the same time, possibly slightly later, to make sure everything gets off to a smooth start. Possibly do the Making wine from Grapes one first, then set everything rolling?
Brian (Cellar_Rat) is the supplier for Grapefest this year, having come up trumps last year. So you will pay Brian direct for your grapes, which should make things easier. He has a system for ordering he is working on, and he will post details soom.
While everyone is here, and before the heavy socialising starts, we need to discuss VWC, WAH and Grapefest...future plans (we want your input, so think about it in advance)
Also...wine swap......
Bring a bottle...take another winemakers bottle away (bring 2 bottles take two away etc etc)
Karl will do another "big prize" raffle
hope to see you all there. I will start a who is attending list elsewhere, please let me know if you are coming, definitely, or maybe and i will update the list accordingly. It's important I have an idea of numbers, just in case we end up with too many people and we need to switch venue.
regards
Bob
