  • Yeast Expiry Date?

    Hi all,

I have bought some packet of Lalvin ICV D47 yeast today for my attempt at Mead, I have just looked on the packets and all four have an expiry date of 12/ 2007, should these be OK?
If I prepare a starter now with one how long should it take to start foaming, I have one batch of Mead in primary with Campden till tomorrow.

The HB shop only had these four packets left,
if they are no good these are the other packets I got :-

    Young's Dessert / High Alcohol
    Young's Champagne
and just Young's ordinary GP super wine Yeast,

    What do you think?
    regards Scott.....

making a starter as prescribed in the everything you wanted to know about yeast starters thread.........

It should be going mental in less than 2 hours (I'm pretty sure your yeasties will be OK, they arent that far out of date)

    hope this helps
    regards

I agree should still be OK unless it it has been sitting under a heat register for some time. The D-47 will work fine in the mead that you intend to make. I think if not that I would go with the GP super wine yeast. My opinion. Cheers DAW
