Hi everyone, my name is Tonya, married with 2 kids aged 9 and 7. I've been lurking here the last few weeks while I get info on making wine. Made it once before from a kit, years ago and never bothered again. This time I want to do it using free or cheap ingredients, will probably do fruit juice as well.
I've been picking loads of elderberries, blackberries and sloes, picked up 4 demijons yesterday from someone on freecycle. I'm already thinking thats not enough because someone else has offered me a load of apples!
I am a member of a few other sites based on old style living, frugal living, downsizing etc and I realised that many of these people make wine and I should look into it. Made jam and chutney for the first time but then realised making wine would be a lot more fun. There's only so much jam we get through in a year lol
So thats me, you'll hear from me again in panic mode cos I dont know what the heck I'm doing!
Hi - I registered a while ago, but recently revisited for some info on degassing.
I'm based in the UK (Cumbria) and have been making wine on and off since I was a student. I can't remember if wine was dearer then, or whether we were just broke. I enjoy using 'free' materials but have been known to splash out on new equipment now and again!! My favourites are elderflower, elderberry, redcurrant, sloe and damson - and plum, when I can get it. I also brew beer from kits for my beerswilling hubby and son.
I'm looking forward to some new insights of winemaking. My name is Morris and I've been making wine for a year now. Mainly fruit wines. But have done dandelion, carrot and mint. Looking forward to seeing what others are doing. I'm from Ohio.
