            • Hello!

What a great hobby! I started making wine last February and I'm hooked.

So far this year I've made peach, banana spice, strawberry, watermelon, blackberry, wild grape, chokecherry, raspberry, pumpkin spice and orange spice mead. Started out making 1-gallon batches, but have graduated to 3-gallon. Nothing in bottles yet -- bottling is postponed until after the holidays.

I have a Welch's white grape and some cranberry in primary now. The cranberry has scented the whole house!

I'm happy to get to know you all!

                      • hi cindie welcome to the forum
Geordie : refers to a person originating from Tyneside and the former coal mining areas of northern County Durham or the dialect spoken by such people. There are a number of rival theories to explain how the term came about, though all accept that it derives from a familiar diminutive form of the name "George".

Hi there - just found this messageboard, looks great.
I started making wine as a student, when wine was more expensive, and made beer from kits. I took a break to start a family, and started back (last year) now they're teenagers.
Last year I had lots of good results, wines young and quick-fermenting. THis year has been slower, probably due to a change in the yeast I use - used to have the nutrient mixed in, now I add it separately, and must not have put enough in, lots of stuck fermentation. Have ironed that out now, and am improving my technique by more frequent use of the hydrometer (most of my wines were also slow because of too much sugar) and have just bought myself a vinometer.
