  • Why wine making.

I know i asked this question on the other forum but,

What made everyone get interested in home wine making, it was put to me the other week 'why its old fashioned, do poeple still do that'.

For me it was a challenge to make something somewhere near drinkable, now its turned into a passionate hobby taking up all me spare time

I got into it becuase we moved to the house we are in now and there is an abundance of apple and plum trees, and a grape vine in the greenhouse.

couldn't eat them all so decided to make wine from them

    and so it began.........

Because making 10 bottles of Wine is cheaper than buying 10pints of beer down the pub

      & I needed a new hobby

Cos I have a drink problem Can't get enough of it

But seriously, I grow most of my own vegetables, have chickens for their eggs (I couldn't EAT the chickens) make my own bread, and making my own wines (and Turbo cider) seems a natural progression

I was 16, didn't want to steal or request too much alcohol from my parents and loved getting drunk with my friends

cos I quite like the idea of making things for me and mine

I took to gardening for the first time last summer and got a real kick out of growing things to eat, then I remembered a mate who brews a lot of homebrew and I thought that could be a good winter project

This may seem strange but we had been trading as a homebrew shop for a couple of years and decided that the time had come to try it ourselves and haven't looked back!
We did try two or three fruits from our garden but realised that that was hard work and nowhere near as good as the kit wines such as Selection and Heron Bay etc.
Same really with beer. The odd batch grew into cellar full of around 15 different brews at any given time.
Just wish we had heard of it long ago!

Now i'm dribbling from the mouth, isn't the temptation too much to move into the cellar.
