Sorry to put a downer on things Omniata, but your calculations are a little off the ball. The average high alcohol yeast will likely not ferment beyond 18% alcohol, if nurtured and under the right conditons it may reach 20-21 % max.
Unfortunately the vinometer is proven to be the most unreliable piece of kit I have had the pleasure to buy, and even more unfortunate is it's less accurate with anything other than a 100 % dry wine. So again sorry to put a downer on things, but those 30% wines aren't quite 30 %. Please ask questions related to this post, don't feel offendedLast edited by Duffbeer; 22-04-2009, 10:21 PM.Discount Home Brew Supplies

Tested the 30% ones at the chemistry department when I was at Uni.
They were pretty much bang on
I'm a former degree student and tend to have things independantly tested if I need to...
I have a license for duty free 100% ethanol too. Just to double check things when absolutely necessary by running measured comparrisons ...
I've never had a problem with getting high alcohol contents with the high alcohol yeasts, I've used a variety in the past always with good results...
I contacted Gervin manufactures directly about 5 years ago and was quoted the maximum practicable alcohol content for the high alcohol strains were nearer to 25%
Not being funny, but guess I've just been lucky...

Sorry but I find your research unfounded, uni or not, you can not ferment a 30% alcohol by use of yeast without distilation.Last edited by Duffbeer; 23-04-2009, 08:09 AM.Discount Home Brew Supplies

Thats good...
More often than not, if you find the need to complain, you get vouchers for the companys product...
At least with a cheque, you can put the money to use however you need to.

Confident people love to see you walk taller
