Ah, well you've obviously been away too long. Pingu, or pignu as he's known, was deposed in the "open source coup" about 10 years ago. The new "Great Leader", now has you all by the internets.......

    • Last night, multiple pints of Becks Vier in the local.

It has reminded me why I stopped drinking lager

          • A WineArt Riesling - good value for money.

A Tesco Chianti. I only bought it for the 500ml bottle, but not bad either.

            • Tonight I finished a bottle of Chardonnay, and have now opened Chilean Carmenere. Nice wine.

              • A half-bottle of a young Beaverdale Barolo.

Pleasant tasting but disappointingly light - bodied; lighter than previous versions.

                        • I judged several interesting wines last night at our club's annual "nouveau" competition (the only rule is that all wine entries had to have been started no earlier than January of the previous calendar year).

The most interesting - and yummiest - was a roasted pear wine. I need to find a recipe for this. There was also a very nice hybrid plum wine that was quite floral, though a bit thin in the body.

My own entries, a Cabernet Sauvignon and Gewurztraminer, came in second in their respective classes. I lost out in both classes to entries submitted by a commercial winemaker, so I don't feel too slighted.

                          • A Beaverdale Rioja, beefed up with oak and tannin (Richard_S's recipe I think). Not too bad.

                            followed by ...

A rosé made from red grapes I acquired via Freecycle (don't laugh). Not brilliant, but pretty decent considering the cost per bottle.
