  • Racked my 2008 Grenache.

Totally different wine to 6 months ago.

It has a pronounced port-like smell to it, which MIGHT be a grenache trait, but probably means it has oxidised

Grenache is susceptible to oxidation. Like Pinot Noir, it lacks some of the antioxidant compounds in the skins that you find in other grape varieties.

What kind of container has it been stored in?

        • I saw your carboy photo on FB. Impressive!

A couple of years back I made a Grenache/Syrah blend. Every single bottle of the stuff had a red stain just like your carboy. I blamed it on the Syrah part of the blend, but now I'm wondering if it might have been the Grenache that did that.

          • I remember that the grenache must stained everything it touched. It was like raspberry jam, even immediately after crushing.

              • Just started 5 gallons of Vitners Reserve Cab Sauv, second run using skins from my grapefest Merlot. Fermented using K1V116 which was hydrated before addition!

Racked the never-ending wine no 1 for the last time
Slapped the Grapefest Merlot & 2nd run about a bit (I much prefer the new "better bottles" with straight sides)
Added enough sugar to the 1.5 gallon batch of black cherry port to raise it back to 1.020 in each.

Next up, cleaning & sulphiting of 60 full size bottles & 15 half size ones for the bottling im planning on whilst being stuck inside this weekend. Bloody snow

He thinks his wine will maybe near completion, eventually. I had a #1 do this to me over the last few months, it just refused to finish fermenting. 0.996 (eventually), and bubbling or forcing pressure in the airlock. It not a new way of making an everlasting wine, sorry.
