  • Wine "saving" additives ?

    Ok, rubbish thread title.

What I'm thinking about, is whether there's any gas type supplies available - at reasonable cost - like small cans of compressed CO2 or similar for blanketing ferments, instead of having to "modify" a brew with dilution of some sort, whether it's water, blending similar brews, something to displace any airspace etc, as I'd rather keep batches of whatever "as is".

Being able to "blanket" a batch would be preferable. Does anyone know of these type of products/supplies ? and if so, where they might be obtained ?

    Hi

A long shot but is there any paintball sites or shops near you. One of the gases they use for the paintball marker is CO2 although a lot have now moved to compressed air. If you talk to them nicely they might be able to sort you out. It used to cost about £1 to get a 0.8l bottle filled.

Argos do Argon bottles, and Argon is inert, so suits our winemaking purposes nicely

a deposit is required on the first bottle, but then refils are reasonably priced.

Pub gas is Co2 (or mixed gas). Your landlord could be tempted by a £10?
