  • I Love my Enolmatic

This is just the best piece of kit I have ever bought, its a vacuum bottle filler, filter and vacuum pump all in one, it makes bottling easy, it can also rack uphill, and best of all it racks nder vacuum so the CO2 is drawn out from the wine, and at the same time the oxygen is kept out of the racking proceedure.

Picture 1 A vacuum is created in the receiving carbuoy
Picture 2 The racking tube is inserted into the container you are racking from...in this case a barrel
Picture 3 as you can see the wine is degassing as it is racked

    life is good

Nice set up Bob - great enjoyment there. Terrific toys and accomplishing more than one thing at a time. I can see where you consider it as one of your best. Cheers DAW

Bob, is that splashing into the receiving carboy?is that to help remove the trapped co2 or just because it doesn't matter as it's in a vacuum?

Just wondering, as I'm thinking up how to rig up a vacuum pump to do racking like that.

It is being racked into a vacuum, so there is no oxygen getting into the wine during the racking process

        AND

it is degassing too, the foam you see is the CO2 being released from the wine.

If you are looking at a vacuum pump setup, you want a pump that will pull between 20 and 25 inches of mercury, that will serve your purposes nicely, and there is no dander of implosion at those levels.

        hope this helps
        regards

And the beauty is I suppose, being under vacuum it's also pulling the co2 being expelled by the wine out at the same time it's making the vacuum. Like an electric vacuvin but with more muscle. Well I suppose the mere peasants like me will have to continue with the old remedies such as racking and stirring, oh yes and lifting to gravitational levals.
