  • Lapsed - back now!

Good morning, I joined earlier but time has been the enemy, now I'm trying again.
Just harvested my black grapes, Cascade I think, but only have enough for a half gallon. I'm looking for a suitable demijon but if I have to use the one gallon, what if anything should I top up with?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Hi there

I would top up with grape juice ....

its a little early to harvest UK grapes, so you may need to chaptalise (add sugar) to get the specific gravity up

Fermenter size.. you could get creative by looking round the supermarket. I've not seen anything in 2.5litre, but Robinson Squash comes in 3 litre plastic containers. This would require less topping up. Maybe no good for long term storage.

Scrumpy jack cider comes in 2 litre glass, an optic cork fits the aperture too

Many thanks your replies. I think I knew I was harvesting a little early, holiday beckons this weekend for two weeks. Have added the required sugar and all seems to be going well. The scrumpy jack bottle sounds ideal, perhaps two even!
          Thanks again,
