  • Elderberry stain?

As this is the first year that I've used elderberries in winemaking in qunatity I've noticed what looks like a brownish-yellowish stain around the primary fermenter and in the secondarys from the fermentation. Is this tannin stain or something else from the elderberries? I've never had this before and just trying to wash it out don't work as it's a persistent ring of the stuff. I've had to resort to soaking and using plastic scouring pads to get the stuff off of the plastic as well as glass.

I believe you got the dreaded elderberry goo. It comes from leaves and stems. A rag dipped in vegetable oil will remove it. Use a curved brush made for carboy cleaning for those.

    Good luck.
