I fitered a Beaverdale SB a couple of days ago...
It has just been lifted up to the table, so I can bottle it...
There is a very fine layer of sediment at the bottom
I am not sure if I should filter it again now
Any suggestions ??
Edit... I am going to re-filter. It's not worth the faffing about, with getting some in a bottle.Insecure people try to make you feel smaller.

Well... I re-filtered my SB.... and it is crystal clear now.
Dont know what happened the first time round.
But I suspect that the filter is to blame...
The first time I filtered it, I was quite amazed as there did not seem to be that much on the filter.
Where as, when it was re-filtered last night there was quite a bit on the filter... more than the first time.Insecure people try to make you feel smaller.

Aye... I think you might be right Zeb
It might have been the "leaking round the edge" ... judging by how much (or lack of) gunk was on the filter... if you know what I mean.
At least it is ok now... so happy daysInsecure people try to make you feel smaller.

Well that was good timing.
I signed up to these forums so I could ask about filtering wine, and what do you know the tutorial and this thread answers my questions.
Looks like I will get a Harris filter when I have the chance and I can then bottle my first batch of wine.
Thanks for the tutorial Richard S!

Chuffin Nora
I filtered my rose last week .....
But the chuffin thing is still cloudy...
I seem to be having mega snags with these blooming wines that are for my friends wedding... (the SB that I referred to before, is for the wedding too)
As this is the second time this has happened, in as many wines, its gotta be operator error... or a pack of dodgy filters maybe
Anyway... its had some more finings added, and will be getting refiltered in due course
The red was fine, thank goodness

Well... I have just looked at the Rose...wine number 2.. from a Ribena blend...
The finings were added 24 hours ish ago... and there is a good 3mm layer of sediment in the bottom of the DJ
This was initially fined, cleared and filtered a week ago, but threw up some dust laterlly
Anyway.... I will leave it till after the weekend, and see how it is....Insecure people try to make you feel smaller.

Great tutorial and great questions, everyone.
I have "used up" my 1st harris filter after 5 years+ of winemaking and filtered about 500 gallons of wine (underestimation) with it.
What I have noticed is that it doesn't filter as well as it used to. I am presuming the threads of the screwy-part-thingy are not as tight anymore.
I have received a brand new one from Bob, but doesn't have the air-release-valve on it.
Does anyone have experience with that kind of filter?
M.

Yup, it has a tendancy to have problems with air locking in the chamber, as there is no way of releasing itDiscount Home Brew Supplies
