  • Beetroot wine

I hope that this is not a silly question, but I have made a batch of beetroot wine it seemed to me obvious that it would make more than a gall, this it did. I now have two Demi Johns that are both almost ¾ full and bubbling madly. The SG is only 1064 so it is not likely to taste like a full bodied port wine. The recipe says to put 2 sultanas in each bottle when bottling.
    8lb Beetroot
    Juice of 3 Lemons
    2lb Sugar
    1/2oz Cloves
    1tsp Cinnamon
    1oz Ginger
    Yeast
    10 Pints water
My question is what can I add to bring both up to a gall and increase the alcohol content?

    Was the starting gravity 1.064?

8lb of beetroot should be fine for 2 gallons.

If it were mine, I'd think about topping up with a litre of white or red grape juice from tescos or similar, and the rest with water. Maybe other people will have other ideas...

It'll need at least a year to age, it also needs to be kept in the dark.

Good luck, Mine is still ageing

    Hope that might help.

I wouldn't put any sultanas in the bottle either.

What yeast did you use in it too?

scroll down to view posts whilst replying, it's all at the bottom of the page.

I wouldn't put anything in the bottles, but that's just me.

Using the GP yeast, I wouldn't try to get the SG up too high.

                Beetroot Wine

Had a look at how fermentation was going (still going strong) but wine has changed colour to a dark brown (tastes good) It has been in a dark cupboard.
Removed raisins as they were not looking to good? All at the top and almost disintergrated, is this because I put them through the blender?
Topped up with water SG now 1064 that is even after adding the raisins and it fermenting for over a week.
Have just been up to check and the ferment has kicked in again and is going strong before.
