okay......
Rhubarb and Raspberry
Presentation:
Absolutely top marks here Carole, simple but elegant label, nicely polished bottle, shrink cap extremely well done, no wrinkles. again a start bright properly degassed wine.
Boquet:
Very berry is how I would describe it, a wonderfully inviting nose, makes me want to drink it (so far on the show bench my interest would be aroused)
Flavour:
The Raspberry dominates a little too much, the acid is a bit high, it also has an astringent note, (are there any elderberries in it?...it seems like there might be)
The wine lacks the right combination of stuff to be a dry wine, and it needs to be a medium rose, as it is high acid, and very fruity.....this suits the ingredients better.
Try adding sugar to a glassfull and see how the fruitiness explodes in your mouth. Or empty a bottle into a jug, then add sugar to 1.008 and try it, it becomes the wine that it should be.....a truly wonderful medium rose (it would likely take prizes)
well done Carole
a fantastic job, but if you want a dry rose, rhubarb is too high in acid, and as a consequence needs sweetness to balance it out.
I hope my comments have helped.
regards
Bob
and thanks again for sharing your wines with me, it was an honour to taste them.
note for newbies:
light Fruity wines are generally better sweetened.Last edited by lockwood1956; 12-03-2009, 09:13 PM.N.G.W.B.J.

Your comments have been exceedinly helpful.
There are no elderberries in this wine.
I knew that the acid was on the high side, but I couldn't get my head round how to "fix" it .
I must admit... I do need to find a few hours to read up about acid...
Or have someone speaking about it on my ipod so that I can listen to it at the gym, or on the way to work
Again, I hadn't thought about sweetening this... but I will definately try it, the next time I open a bottle.
I have some plain rhubarb wine also... that is also a little tart. So I will also try sweetening to see the difference.
Many thanks for you comments Bob... greatly appreciated.

Well, I picked mine up today
Six 250ml pet bottles. A nice little variety.
I'm not sure when I am going to be able to taste them.
Work is getting in the way of life for the next 7 days.
But I will let you know when I do.
Thanks Bob
