  • Sorry more No 1 questions

Guys what is the reason for the apple juice in the number 1 wine, why should this be better than just 3 grape, what does the apple add.

Also prior to joining the forum and not knowing about the No 1 recipe I made a few gallons of supermarket grape juice wine. I used just 5 litres of grape juice with a little sugar to bring up to 1080. was I wrong to do it this way I am just waisting pennies buying extra juice.

    thanks

the apple adds "some" tannin and malic acid and will give the wine a bit more body, it also means the must is a blend, giving slightly more complexity.

Using pressed grape juice on its own will give you as dissapointing end product, not as good as the original recipe, as the juice is from eating grapes, not winemaking grapes.

    regards

Many thanks for the reply Bob.

I have some No1,s on the go it will be interesting to taste the difference, not that I doubt you as I had started adding 2 cups of Ribena to my grape juice as it was not that good on its own.
