    got a youngs kit wine for my first one. says on the box takes 7 to 20 days to ferment and should be ok when sg is 1 or below. been 21 days now and is just marginally over 1 on the hydrometer. does this mean i just keep waiting thn tast again in a few days

    Is there any activity in the airlock ?
    Does it taste sweet ?

    If your answer is no to both, then is sounds like it has finished fermenting.
    Maybe your hydrometer need calibrating.
    I think there is a link on this.. but basically, the hydrometer should sit at 1.000 whilst in room temperature water.
