  • stabiliser (potassium sorbate)

i have some youngs stabiliser, now on the carton it states to use between 1 ans 2 teaspoons per gallon.

i read on here or another site this is a printing "error" and just half a teaspoon is sufficient per gallon along with a campden tab..

    any thoughts

Yep 1/2 tsp + Campden to 1 gall. You have a printing error.

I agree. Sounds like they put a dash (1-2) where there should've been a slash (1/2).

would using this much taint the wine?? i used 1.5 teaspoons for my first batch and it had a strange taste..

just read container it states " use 1 or 2 teaspoon" per gallon so it must be a printing error. i read this was the case somewhere so thought id ask.. not very good on "youngs" behalf for newcomers..

Billy, it can add kind of an odd, sweet sort of taste.

Potassium Sorbate can also fall out of suspension some times and will leave a white deposit on the side of the bottle. It usually does not effect taste though when it happens.
