any idea where you can buy the small paint mixers from for de-gassing?

the smallest i can find is 400mm long and 85mm wide. presumably i need one about 25-35mm wide max, so it can fit in the DJ

The Home Brew Shop UK a specialist online homebrew supplier of home beer brewing kits wine & cider kits and all the homebrewing grains and hops you need

I use this degasser and it fits fine into a demi john as the paddles are hinged.

always place the DJ in the sink though, volcano's happen sometimes when degassing

What about them 'Whip' degassers? Not seen anywhere in the UK to get them:

I am in the market for a degasser, though I suppose shaking the DJ's is exercise

That's the one I use - OK for DJs and 5 gal carboys.

I still reckon shaking is more effective though .

This style of degassing tool pictured should be uses as a wall decoration as far as I am concerned. The opposite end of a plastic mixing spoon will do a far better job. Look for a degassing tool that has a stainless steel shaft and wings on the bottom either short stainless steel or plastic. These actually work very well. Paint mixing tools are for mixing paint. They do not fit into a demijohn they are way too aggressive for most clearing purposes. I hope this helps.

The plastic 'whip' degasser looks like a long plastic spoon handle bent over some heat..

I'm with Pete on the shake method works best.

                  shaking

whizz-stick only good for 3+ gallons in a single container (imo)
To most people solutions mean answers. To chemists solutions are things that are mixed up.

I suspect Lushie will be along soon to examine "The Whip"

I have the one in the link... as Pete says, good for 1 gal, and 5 gal alike.
