  • Rhubarb

I am brewing 3 gal of Rhubarb which went like a bomb when is started, but we went away for 10 days and when we returned the brew had stopped I add 2k of sugar which made it 130sg, but it still will not start again.

I have added in total 4 pounds of sugar all together. I have added more yeast the air-trap is now under pressure but it is not popping.

There is something in the top, it may be very small bits of Rhubarb?

Can you post the original recipe (especially initial weight of sugar), the starting SG and the SG immediately before you added the second lot of sugar please? I'm not sure whether '2k of sugar' means 2kg or 2lb . Presumably 2lb because 2kg would make the second addition bigger than the total amount of sugar.

    What yeast are you using?

    Is the bung airtight?

What is the SG now, and is it dropping?

      Hi Goldseal

I found out what the problem was, it was not the brew, but the kit, it is popping well now.

I am using an old water container from a water cooler; I put a plastic cork with a hole in, in the original top. I think it was not airtight, so I have put some wire around the inside, which seems to be working for now.

I think that on the top are very small pieces of Rhubarb

I will have to find some glue to make a good seal, so it does not leak again.

You ask for the recipe for 3 gallons well,
      17lbs of Rhubarb
6kgs of sugar ( which here is about 1kg to go in)
3 cartoons of apple juice 1 and half Lts a carton (Lidl )

I have won a couple of Coms with this recipe as a dry white

        That's good news.

Make sure your glue is food-safe. I sometimes use PTFE tape (that thin white stuff plumbers use), which I believe is inert.

6 Kg of sugar + around 0.5 Kg in the apple juice seems like an awful lot of sugar for 3 gallons (4lb 12ozs per gall).
