  • PET ... is it safe?

...yesterday using a grommet and a forstner bit I converted a 4 litre squash bottle into a fermenter. Question, are the bottles made of PET safe?

PET is fine for fermentation but probably not for ageing your wine.

Thee are a few threads which discuss PET already, so don't be afraid to use that 'Search' function

Well that's what the fermenter that come with the cheap starter kits are made of.....

You can use, pretty much any plastic container as long as its food/chemical grade.

A lot of us don't like the idea of ageing in plastics, but fermenting in it seems fine.

Thanks for the response, I'll give it a go and not worry about it. It seemed a waste to throw out a perfectly useful container ... I use computers all day, sometimes I avoid the search buttons ;-)
